    I live in a very small town of 3900 people. I invited friends and neighbors over for swimming and general fun viewing the night skies. Several grade school aged children came and we spent hours looking into the heavens. The kids really got excited when we focused in on Saturn. Being able to see the rings of Saturn and three of Saturn's moons was astonishing to the kiddos. Long story short… kids invited kids and now we view the heavens on a regular basis, conditions permitting of course. This little group has grown to at least 10-15 kiddos that now have a strong interest in Astronomy. Teachers have even made statements as to the “surge” of interest these children have developed in Astronomy as well as science in general. I hope this little amount of time spent with the children will help at least one go out into the world and pursue a career in the field of Astronomy, maybe even an Astronaut! I have a SkyQuest XT6 which I love and I'm trying to get the wife to “agree” to expanding to better equipment so maybe our little group will grow and spark even more interest with the little ones.
